Who We Are

The Highland Park Community League (“HPCL,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) operates the website https://highlandparkcommunityleague.org. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have about your data — including data related to our SMS (text messaging) program, which is described in detail in the dedicated section below.

What Personal Data We Collect and Why

Contact Forms

When you submit a contact form on our website, we collect the information you provide (such as your name, email address, phone number if supplied, and any message content). We use this information to respond to your inquiry and, where you have indicated interest, to send you communications about HPCL activities, candidates we endorse, and civic issues affecting Highland Park.

SMS / Text Messaging

If you opt in to receive text messages from HPCL, we collect:

  • Your mobile phone number
  • The date, time, and source of your opt-in (for example, the signup form you used)
  • The content of any messages you send to us
  • Records of messages we send to you, including delivery status

We use SMS data solely to operate our text messaging program — see the SMS Program Terms section below for full details on what messages we send, how often, and how to opt out.

Media

If you upload images to the website, please avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS), as visitors to the website can extract location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content.

Mobile Information & SMS Data Sharing

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing with subcontractors that support our messaging service — such as SMS aggregators, messaging platforms, or service providers acting on our behalf — is permitted strictly for the purpose of delivering messages you have agreed to receive. All other categories of data use exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

We do not sell SMS contact information or message content. We do not share SMS opt-in data, phone numbers, or message content with affiliates, partners, advertisers, data brokers, or any other organization for their own use.

How Long We Retain Your Data

If you submit a contact form, we retain the form and related metadata until you request deletion or until the data is no longer needed for the purpose for which it was collected.

If you opt in to SMS messages, we retain your phone number and consent record while you are subscribed and for a reasonable period afterward to maintain compliance records consistent with FCC, CTIA, and Campaign Registry guidance. If you opt out, we retain only the record showing that you opted out, in order to honor your preference.

For users who register on our website (if any), we store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

Your Rights Over Your Data

You have the right to:

  • Request an exported copy of the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction or deletion of your data, except where we are required to retain it for legal, administrative, or compliance purposes
  • Opt out of SMS messages at any time by replying STOP to any HPCL message
  • Unsubscribe from email communications at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email we send

To exercise these rights, contact us at communications@highlandparkcommunityleague.com.

Where We Send Your Data

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Email contact information may be shared with email service providers (such as Mailchimp or Project Broadcast) acting on our behalf to deliver communications you have subscribed to. SMS phone numbers and message content may be shared with our SMS messaging provider solely to deliver messages you have opted in to receive. None of these service providers are permitted to use your data for their own purposes.

Opt-In

You may opt in to the HPCL SMS program by submitting your mobile number through the SMS signup form on this website or through other documented methods that include your explicit consent. By opting in, you consent to receive recurring automated text messages from HPCL. Consent is not a condition of membership, donation, or any other service.

How to Opt Out

You may opt out at any time by replying STOP to any HPCL message. After you reply STOP, we will send a single confirmation message, and you will not receive further messages from the HPCL SMS program unless you opt in again.

For help, reply HELP to any HPCL message, or contact us at communications@highlandparkcommunityleague.com.

HPCL SMS messages are supported on most major U.S. wireless carriers. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
